Restore Timeline
Restore points are local safety snapshots. Restore Timeline turns them into a searchable history of important changes, including saved notes and settings. They stay in this browser profile and are not part of the Google Drive shared file.
When restore points are useful
- Before replacing data during import.
- Before applying content changes received from Google Drive, including during connection.
- Before deleting links or groups.
- Before group moves, group reorders, and moving links when automatic movement snapshots are enabled in the saved settings.
- Before saving open tabs into a new group.
- Before reset, demo-data removal, and restoring another snapshot.
- Before duplicate deletion when you confirm selected items.
- Before replacing or removing the saved background image or Countdown sound.
- When a stale notes editor would replace another saved version.
The automatic movement-snapshot preference defaults to on. It does not turn off the safety points made for imports, deletion, reset, media changes, or cloud replacement. Restore Timeline is not a complete edit log: ordinary typing and every settings change do not each create a snapshot.
Restore Timeline
Restore Timeline groups snapshots by day, shows readable reasons and context, and includes search and action filters. Create a named manual point before a change you want to preserve. You can restore a snapshot after confirmation or export it as a ZIP backup with the media referenced by that snapshot.
An individually exported point includes its background files and selected original Countdown sound. A Full Backup ZIP includes the timeline and referenced backgrounds, but only the current main snapshot's original Countdown sound. Other historical audio choices are omitted neutrally; restoring them keeps the receiving profile's current sound or built-in default. Settings and links only (JSON) keeps history without media bytes. Aura Start keeps up to 20 local restore points. The cap prevents unbounded growth in extension storage; use Full Backup ZIP exports for long-term backup history outside the browser profile.
Before restoring
Restoring changes your current local Aura Start data. Aura Start creates a new restore point for the current state before applying the snapshot, so you have a way back if the restored snapshot is not the one you wanted. Restoring retains this installation's current Google Drive connection. When connected automatic sync is enabled, the resulting changes also reach other connected devices. A Restore Point is not a backup of Google credentials or the active running countdown.
Deleting one point or clearing the timeline removes local recovery history; it does not delete current links or Google Drive contents. Those history deletions cannot be undone from a point that has also been removed. Export any snapshots you want to keep before clearing them.
Good habits
Restore points are helpful, but they are still local browser data. Keep a Full Backup ZIP file somewhere safe before very large changes.
